Roanoke Rapids police are investigating a shooting where the victim was found on Gordon Drive as officers investigated a call of a firearm larceny from a vehicle on Adams Circle.

Chief Chuck Hasty said in a statement the police department received the larceny call around 4 a.m. today.

Gordon Drive and Adams Circle are located off Roanoke Avenue in the South Rosemary area.

Officers found a vehicle with doors open but no one around.

While investigating, Officer R. Cross located a shooting victim on Gordon Drive. The victim, who Hasty declined to identify, was taken to Halifax Regional and then to a trauma center for further treatment.

Investigators are trying to determine whether the larceny call is related to the shooting.

There are currently no suspect descriptions at this time.
