One of the women, Lacey Shae Taylor, 30, reportedly passed a counterfeit $10 bill at a local business while the other, Melissa Ann Taylor, 38, was allegedly in possession of a counterfeit bill which was marked for movie use only, Roanoke Rapids Police Department Deputy Chief Andy Jackson said in a statement.

Investigator Obert Wiltsie said movie money can be purchased online. He said, however, it wasn’t clear where the money used in this case came from.

Investigation began Monday after Lieutenant Charles Burnette responded to a local business where counterfeit money was passed. Upon closer review the $10 bill was marked as prop money.

The suspect was reported to be on a silver Jaguar. Wiltsie and Lieutenant Charles Vaught spotted a car matching the description traveling on Vine Street.

The result of the investigation led to Taylor  being charged with two counts of issuing counterfeit money  and two counts obtaining property by false pretense. She was jailed on $5,000 bond.

Underwood, the passenger, was charged with possessing counterfeit money and an outstanding warrant from Carteret County for resist and obstruction was served.

Underwood received a $5,000 bond for the Roanoke Rapids charges and a $1,000 bond for the Carteret County charge.

The detectives seized counterfeit money from the vehicle, about 10 bills in all, Wiltsie said.

Wiltsie said there have been several other reports filed in Roanoke Rapids which might be linked. Those matters are still under investigation.
