Enfield police Chief Tyree Davis said in a statement the grandmother, Tawanda Tillery, 36, was charged with felony breaking and entering and felony attempted larceny.
The three grandchildren ranged in age from 3 to 5.
Tillery was arrested after Detective Willie Murphy responded to a residence on Bullock Street around noon about a breaking and entering in progress.
Murphy entered the residence and reportedly found Tillery, of Enfield, inside trying to take items from the house, her three small grandchildren inside with her.
Davis said in the statement Murphy learned Tillery brought the children with her while allegedly committing the break-in.
Tillery received a $15,000 bond and March 15 court date.
Davis, who could not immediately be reached for additional comment this morning, said in the statement social services was notified regarding child neglect and further charges may be filed.
