A man currently awaiting a December 5 court date on cocaine trafficking and other charges stemming from an August raid, faces new charges after his arrest this morning.

Captain A.M. Harris of the City County Drug Task Force said agents would have to check the criminal history of Cortez Sesson before determining whether to move forward with possible federal adoption of his case.
Despite his arrest in August, Harris said agents continued to receive complaints about drug dealing in the Happy Drive area of P&J Trailer Court, located off Highway 48 outside Roanoke Rapids.
Harris said Sesson is considered to be a reputed major dealer of marijuana, pills and cocaine.
Today’s raid occurred around 6:45 a.m. at Happy Drive.
Agents and the Hazardous Entry and Arrest Team of the Halifax County Sheriff’s executed the search warrant after Agent J.R. Matthews received more complaints about activity in the area, Harris said in a statement.
While serving the search warrant members of HEAT encountered a pitbull inside the residence which was shot when it advanced towards the members. Harris said earlier today the dog was aggressive and wasn’t there when agents converged on the residence in August.
Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Corporal J. Bozard and his dog, Fino, helped agents seize a user amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Agents also seized currency, bullets and a handgun.
Matthews cited Latressa Taylor, 32, with a North Carolina Uniform Citation for possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
He arrested and charged Sesson, 24, with possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and felon in possession of firearm.
Sesson received a $50,000 bond. He and Taylor have January 25 court dates.
Halifax County Animal Control assisted.

Wyche Street

Harris also reported in the statement on November 17 at approximately 1 p.m., agents and the Roanoke Rapids Police Department patrol division executed a search warrant on Wyche Street. Agent D. Hundley applied for a search warrant which was granted due to citizen complaints and his continued investigation.
During the search of the residence agents located a user amount of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia which included two digital scales, a box of clear plastic bags and a marijuana pipe.
Hundley cited Bryan Lamont Boone, 36, of Roanoke Rapids, a North Carolina Uniform Citation for possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
He received a December 28 court date.

Sheriff’s office arrest

Chief Deputy Scott Hall said in a statement on November 17 deputies arrested Trevanta Whitaker, 21, and Trevor Johnson, 26, both of Roanoke Rapids.
The arrests were made following a traffic stop for a motor vehicle violation which was conducted by Gang Task Force Deputy D.C. Dickens due to a community drug complaint.
Sergeant S. Casey and Deputy M. Groves responded to assist.
A search of the vehicle netted 191.8 grams of marijuana, a .45-caliber handgun with an altered serial number, digital scale, and plastic bags.
Johnson was charged with possession with the intent to sell and distribute marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle to sell a controlled substance, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number.
