RRPD blotter: September 16-22, 2016

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Friday September 16, 2016
At approximately 2:30 a.m., Officer Hannah Grimes was investigating suspicious activity in the 1000 block of Jefferson Street when she encountered Austin James Lancaster, 20, of Roanoke Rapids. Grimes found Lancaster in possession of drug paraphernalia and narcotics.
Grimes cited Lancaster for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released until his November 4 court date.
Master Officer Roy Ball and Officer Jamie Hardy assisted.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., Master Officer Jonathan Benthall responded to a call about a person attempting to break into vehicles in the Save-A-Lot parking lot.
Halifax Central advised responding officers the person, Dustin Travis Nowell, 27, of Roanoke Rapids, was detained by the vehicle’s owner.
Benthall arrested and charged Nowell with attempted breaking and entering of a vehicle.
He received a $2,000 bond and October 14 court date.
Officers Chris Biggerstaff and Matt Hunsucker assisted.

At approximately 5 p.m., Officer Jason Williams received information on the location of Ashley Ann Hester, 30, of Roanoke Rapids, who had several outstanding warrants for identity theft.
Williams located and arrested Hester without trouble.
She received a $20,000 bond and October 19 court date.
Sergeant Terrence Tyler assisted.

At approximately 11 p.m., Officer Ryan Cross responded to a call about an unresponsive person inside a vehicle in the 1300 block of Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.
Cross found Travis O’Brian Webb, 28, of Roanoke Rapids, inside the running vehicle passed out.
After having Webb checked out by EMS, Cross charged him with driving while impaired and possession of an open container.
Webb received a $500 bond and October 21 court date.
Lieutenant Charles Burnette assisted.

Saturday September 17, 2016
At approximately 1:30 p.m., Williams responded to a larceny call at Just Save on East Tenth Street. Officers located Lexie Ann McLeod on Professional Drive near Hunting Ridge Road and took her into custody without trouble.
McLeod was charged with larceny, possession of stolen goods and served two outstanding orders for arrest. She received a $500 bond and October 14 court date.
Biggerstaff assisted.

Sunday September 18, 2016
At approximately 11 a.m., Colson responded to a call about a man walking with a handcuff on in the 100 block of Monroe Street.
Colson learned there was an argument between the victim and Paul Chavis, 50 or Roanoke Rapids.
During the argument the victim was assaulted and handcuffed and tied to a wooden chair.
Colson obtained warrants n Chavis for kidnapping, assault by strangulation and assault on a female but could not locate him.
At approximately 2 a.m. the following day, Chavis was taken into custody by Officer Patrick Smith in the 100 block of Monroe Street after he received information on his location.
Chavis was held without the opportunity for bond and has an October 19, court date.
Burnette, Sergeant Mark Peck and Officer Joey Spragins assisted.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., Smith responded to a single-vehicle collision on Bolling Road near Harris Street.
Smith found William Randy Kidd, 60, of Roanoke Rapids, wrecked his moped and determined he was impaired.
EMS transported Kidd to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Smith cited him for driving while impaired and gave him an October 10 court date.

Monday September 19, 2016
At approximately 9:30 a.m., Hardy arrested Dustin Travis Nowell, 27, on outstanding warrants for common law robbery and assault on a female.
The charges stem from a matter reported on September 16 around 8 p.m. to Spragins.
The victim reported Nowell allegedly assaulted her and took the victim’s pocketbook.
Nowell received a $100,000 bond and has a September 28 court date.

Tuesday September 20, 2016
At approximately 3 a.m., Cross responded to a disturbance in the area of Collins Avenue and Dublin Street
Cross encountered Gary Glenn Starks Jr., 22, of Roanoke Rapids, who was found in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Cross cited Starks for possession of drug paraphernalia and was released until his November 14 court date.

At approximately 10:25 a.m., Investigator Chris Babb responded to a trespasser call at the Food Lion on Roanoke Avenue.
Babb found Tasha High Jacobs, 44, of Roanoke Rapids, on the property.
Jacobs refused to leave the property and was arrested for trespassing. She received a $500 bond and an October 19 court date.
Officers Scott Blythe and Colson assisted.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., Williams responded to a disturbance call in the 100 block of Green Garden Court.
Williams learned Kristin Deanna Newell, 25, of Roanoke Rapids, had an outstanding warrant for assault.
Newell was taken into custody without trouble and received a $2,500 bond and September 27 court date.
Master Officer Jonathan Benthall assisted.

At approximately 10:15 a.m., Grimes responded to a breaking/entering and larceny call in the 300 block of Clearfield Drive.
Grimes found Ariel Lee Stone Jr., 27, inside the residence.
Stone was detained and Lieutenant Charles Vaught was called to assist.
Investigation tied Stone to another residential breaking and entering and a vehicle breaking and entering that happened on September 19.
Stone was charged with two counts breaking and entering; larceny after breaking and entering; breaking and entering a motor vehicle; possession of stolen goods, obtaining property by false pretense, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He received a $30,000 bond and a October 21 court date.
Captain Bobby Martin and investigators Gorton Williams and Jeff Davis assisted.

Thursday September 22, 2016
Approximately 8 a.m. Hardy responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 600 block of East Littleton Road.
Hardy learned Adam Burgess, 39, of Roanoke Rapids, had outstanding warrants for assault on a female and he was inside the residence.
Sergeant Daniel Jenkins and officers Hardy and Colson located Burgess inside the residence and took him into custody.
Burgess was arrested on the outstanding warrants for assault on a female. He was also charged with resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was jailed without opportunity for bond and has an October 31 court date.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., Grimes responded to a larceny call at Walmart.
Loss prevention told Grimes Pamela Denise Clemons, 45, of Roanoke Rapids, took items.
Grimes cited Clemons for larceny and possession of stolen goods and released her until court date.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., Hardy was taking part in a license checking station on Becker Drive near Patch Rubber Road when Tamakia Williams, 30, of Roanoke Rapids, came through.
During the interaction Hardy could smell an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and Williams was found to be in possession of narcotics.
Hardy cited Williams for possession of schedule marijuana and she was released until her October 10 court date.
Also during the checking station a vehicle attempted to avoid the checkpoint.
Hardy spoke with the driver and Charlene Hyman, 49, of Weldon, was found in possession of narcotics.
Hardy cited Hyman for possession of marijuana and she was released until her October 10 court date.
