Parks and Recreation Director John Simeon laid out a timetable for renovations to Chaloner pool which includes receiving three quotes on how much the work will cost.

Simeon said before this evening’s city council meeting he couldn’t venture a guess on how much the repairs may cost until quotes come in.
He hopes to have an itemization of the scope of the work and costs by October 1 and then present them to council on October 18. He hopes to have bid packages prepared by November 15 and set the bid application deadline for December 15.
He would like to see construction completed by the end of April
The pool remains closed as the city waits for the data.
In the action plan he submitted to council, Simeon noted, “This is a turnkey job where contractor will be responsible for removal of debris, grade landscape and have facility ready for immediate opening.”
The project has two components, one addressing the bath house electrical, lighting and plumbing. The other is the pool renovation.
Within the first component, the renovations include the following:
New electrical panel box and breaker replacement
Replacement of all wires, electrical outlets and light fixtures
Replacement of plumbing lines to include new sinks and toilets
Install white bead hardwall throughout the bath house
Replacement of sidewalk and steps to grade appropriate
Within the second component, the renovations include the following:
Replace pool main deck and coping
Repair and resurface main pool to include structural repairs if needed
Replace main pool pump to include intake and return lines throughout pool
Replace wade pool pump to include intake and return lines throughout pool
Diving board and guard stand replacement
“Where are we getting the money from?” Councilman Wayne Smith asked Simeon. “Is it in your budget?”
“No sir,” Simeon replied.
“I’d like to tell you, I wasn’t happy during budget time,” Smith said.
He said public works cut nearly $600,000 from its budget; the fire department did not receive the two positions and fire truck it asked for and the planning department asked for three people and got one. “The police department didn’t get all the cars it asked for.”
Said Smith: “We’ve got two pools people can go to. We’ve got to think about the needs we’ve got to have. I would think this would cost about $200,000.”
Simeon did not respond
Councilman Carl Ferebee, who represents the area which includes the Chaloner Recreation Center, said after the meeting it is obvious he and Smith disagree on the matter. “I think we have to do the right thing.”
Ferebee said, “I hope the other council members can see there are monies we know we can get to do things. It’s a need. We find money for everything else. The pool at Chaloner was there long before there was a second pool at T.J. Davis. We came up with the money to fix the Aquatic Center.”
