The City County Drug Task Force seized counterfeit money and bulk legitimate currency during execution of a search warrant in the 400 block of Rightmyer Drive.

Agents, according to Roanoke Rapids police Chief Chuck Hasty, who was at the scene, also seized marijuana, several weapons and a bullet proof vest.
As of this report an arrest has been made, but Hasty and the task force declined to immediately release the person’s name.
Hasty said the search warrant execution was based on two traffic stops made today as well as a continuing investigation.

Task force Captain A.M. Harris declined to immediately discuss how much counterfeit or legitimate currency was seized.
Agents were seen outside checking vehicles in the yard as well as looking at security camera systems. Two camera systems were in plain view at the left front side of the house as well as the rear left side of the house. An agent was seen carrying out a rifle and Harris at one point put evidence sealed in a manila envelope in his vehicle.
Several residents in the area, which is off Fifth Street, confirmed there was heavy traffic in the neighborhood consistent with drug activity.
Hasty said the police department would consult with the United States Secret Service about the counterfeit money.
Unrelated arrest
Meanwhile today, Harris reported in a statement, agents held a checking station in the area of Hinson Street.
Just after noon, Agent D.W. McKeel encountered Laronica Michelle Newell, 35, and Morante Tremanye Brown, 34, both of Roanoke Rapids.
McKeel could reportedly smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
Newell was issued a North Carolina Uniform Citation for driving while license revoked.
During the search, marijuana was found on Newell and marijuana and cocaine was found on Brown.
Brown was arrested for felony possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce. Newell was arrested for possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce.
Deputy B. Warren of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office assisted during the search.
Newell received a $500 bond and Brown a $1,500 bond. Both have September 28 court dates.
