Roanoke Rapids police and other law enforcement are looking for a man who escaped custody after reportedly stealing items from the toolbox of a truck parked at Lowe’s Home Improvement.

One person is in custody, according to Captain Bobby Martin.
Martin confirmed police, who set up a perimeter in the Vine Street area, are looking for Anthony Joseph Boone Jr., a Roanoke Rapids man in his mid-40s.
Deputy Chief Andy Jackson said Boone was wearing a royal blue shirt and blue jeans when he was taken into custody after the vehicle he was in was stopped at Walgreen’s. He managed to break free of officers and made a dash into wood line behind Drugco around 2:15 p.m. He was handcuffed at the time.
Martin said Boone is expected to be charged with resist, delay and obstruct and larceny. He also has an outstanding order for arrest.
Boone is described as a black male with a medium build who wears his hair in an Afro style.
The police department enlisted the help of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and the state Highway Patrol, which sent its helicopter.
As of this report, Boone was still at large.
