RRPD blotter: June 13-19, 2016

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Monday June 13, 2016

At Approximately 7:45 p.m., Lieutenant Perry Parks conducted a traffic stop for a warrant service on Emry Street at the intersection of Roanoke Avenue.

Parks spoke with the occupants and discovered Jennifer Nicole Suggs, 33, and Michael Wayne Brown, 41, both of Roanoke Rapids, had outstanding warrants and orders for arrest.

Parks also found them in possession of drug paraphernalia.

Suggs was served a warrant for trespassing and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

She received a $500 bond and a July 15 court date.

Brown was served with three outstanding orders for arrest and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

He received a $9,000 bond and July 8 court date.

Master Officer Roy Ball and Officer Scott Blythe assisted.

Tuesday June 14, 2015

At approximately 7 a.m., Officer Joey Spragins responded to a breaking and entering cal in the 200 block of Taylor Street.

Kimberly King Munn, 25, of Roanoke Rapids, told officers Dustin Wayne Floyd, 25, of Roanoke Rapids, went inside the residence and took items.

Officers detained Floyd pending investigation.

During the investigation officers learned Floyd had an unrelated outstanding warrant for communicating threats and was placed under arrest.

As the officers continued to investigate they learned the call was domestic rather than one for breaking and entering after Munn changed her story.

Munn was cited for filing a false police report and was released until her July 29 court date.

Floyd was released with a promise to appear.

Lieutenant Charles Burnette, Ball and Officer Ryan Cross assisted.

At approximately noon, Cross and other officers responded to Walmart after receiving a call several people with outstanding warrants for larceny were inside the store.

Officers located Kelsey Jaivon Parker, 23, and Antonio Lamont Baker, 34, both of Roanoke Rapids, and Cassandra Sabra Pitt, 25, of Pleasant Hill, inside the store and detained them.

Parker was arrested on an outstanding warrant for larceny. He received a $5,000 bond and July 1 court date.

Baker was arrested on outstanding warrants for larceny and possession of stolen goods and served an outstanding order for arrest. He received an $8,000 bond and July 1 court date.

Pitt was arrested on outstanding warrants for six counts of obtaining property by false pretense, six counts identity theft, seven counts financial card theft, larceny, and seven counts possession of stolen goods.

She received a $12,000 bond and July 1 court date.

The fraud charges stem from an investigation by Investigator Frankie Griffin when the victim reported last August their debit card was used without permission.

Deputy Chief Andy Jackson, Griffin, Sergeant Mark Peck, Master Officer Gerald Morris and Officer Natara Velazquez assisted.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., Officer Dale Strickland responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Monica Michelle Simmons, 36, of Garysburg, took items from the store. Simmons struck Strickland when he attempted to arrest her.

Strickland got her into custody and during a search located drug paraphernalia.

Strickland charged Simmons with larceny, possession of stolen goods, assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer.

She received a $ 2,500 bond and July 1 court date.

Wednesday June 15, 2016

At approximately 3 p.m., Investigator Chris Babb served outstanding warrants on Shane Joshua Roby, 34, of Hollister, when turned himself in to the detective.

The charges stem from an investigation by Investigator Gorton Williams when the victim reported in May their wallet was stolen and their credit cards used several times.

Roby was charged with identity theft and unlawfully obtaining credit cards.

He received a $10,000 bond and August 17 court date.

At approximately 2 p.m., Velazquez responded to a larceny in the 100 block of Long Circle.

The victim said Dustin Travis Nowell, 26, of Roanoke Rapids, snatched their medicine and ran away. Velazquez obtained warrants on Nowell for larceny from a person.

Officer Alex Green arrested Nowell on the outstanding warrant around 8 p.m.

Nowell received a $6,000 bond and July 20 court date.

Thursday June 16, 2016

At approximately 8:45 p.m., Master Officer Adam Salmon and Officer Dustin Newsome received information on the location of Jonathan Pilgrim, 29, of Roanoke Rapids.

The officers responded to Premier Boulevard and located Pilgrim, who had outstanding warrants from Roanoke Rapids and the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Pilgrim was charged with obtaining property by a false pretense, stemming from an investigation by Babb.

On June 11 Pilgrim allegedly took items from Walmart without paying for them, returned them and received a refund.

Pilgrim was also served warrants for intimidating a witness and communicating threats from a case investigated by the sheriff's office.

Pilgrim received a $6,000 bond and August 17 court date.

Friday June 17, 2016

At approximately 3:30 p.m., Officer Jamie Hardy responded to a larceny call at Belk.

Loss prevention reported Marvin Lewis Scott, 24, of Roanoke Rapids, took items.

Hardy arrested and charged Scott with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

He received a $500 bond and July 15 court date.

Parks assisted.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., Ball responded to a larceny call at Belk.

Loss prevention reported Janice Denise Newell, 44, of Roanoke Rapids, concealed items. Ball cited Newell, who was released until her July 15 court date, with shoplifting concealment of goods.

Blythe assisted.

At approximately 6 p.m., Hardy responded to a domestic assault in the 100 block of Wheeler Street.

Hardy noticed injuries to the victim’s face and legs

He charged Dennis Wade Newton Jr., 42, of Gaston, with assault on a female.

Newton was jailed without opportunity for bond and has a July 15 court date.

Parks and Sergeant Daniel Jenkins assisted.

Saturday June 18, 2016

At approximately 8:30 a.m., Officer Greg Colson responded to a domestic disturbance in the 300 block of Madison Street.

During the investigation, John Paul Harrison Jr., 44, of Roanoke Rapids, would not cooperate while officers attempted to quell the disturbance.

Harrison was arrested and charged with resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer. He received a $1,000 bond and July 15 court date.

Parks and Blythe assisted.

At approximately 11:45 a.m., Parks responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Angela Leigh Hux, 43, of Littleton, took items.

Parks cited Hux with larceny and possession of stolen goods. She was released until her July 15 court date.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., Parks responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Joyce Ann Putnam, 73, of Enfield, took items.

Parks arrested and charged Putnam with larceny and possession of stolen goods. She received a $600 bond and August 12 court date.

Officer Duane Daniels assisted.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., Hasty responded to a call about Kasheila Lorraine Smith, 44, of Roanoke Rapids, refusing to leave a room at Quality Inn.

Hotel staff told Hasty the woman was still in the room after checkout and refused to leave.

Hasty learned Smith was wanted for a parole violation. She was arrested on the outstanding parole warrant and jailed without opportunity for bond until her June 27 court date in Nash County.

Lieutenant Charles Vaught, Jenkins and Ball assisted.

At approximately 9:15 p.m., several officers responded to a disturbance in the 900 block of Henry Street.

Officer Chris Biggerstaff arrested and charged Rosa Annette Harper, 47, and Gwendolyn Denise Graham, 37, both of Roanoke Rapids for simple assault.

Harper and Graham received $500 bonds and July 22 court dates.

Sergeant Terrence Tyler and Officer Jason Williams assisted.

Sunday June 19, 2016

At approximately 1 p.m., Ball responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Carolyn Danese Williams, 61, of Weldon, concealed items.

Ball cited Ms. Williams, who was released until her July 15 court date, with shoplifting concealment of goods.

At approximately 11 p.m., police received a call about a larceny at Sheetz.

Officer Matt Hunsucker located and stopped a vehicle matching the description given by Halifax Central on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

Hunsucker arrested and charged Devon Mayo, 21, of Pleasant Hill, for larceny and possession of stolen goods. He received a $500 bond and June 24 court date.

Tyler and Officer Williams assisted.
