The park, located at T.J. Davis, will open at 10 a.m.
“We're very excited about opening the skatepark,” Simeon told council. “It's been a year and a half in the making and a lot of hard work. We're very proud of the skatepark.”
The signs will be up before the opening of the facility, he said.
“Thank you for all the work,” Mayor Emery Doughtie said. “I think there will be quite a few people who will benefit from it.”
Simeon said after the meeting the dream of having the skatepark was a culmination of community support coupled with the work of city staff and volunteers. “That has enabled us to have a top of the line skatepark.”
He said he has already been approached about staging different types of competitions at the facility. “We would like to see them in Roanoke Rapids.”
He said, however, before starting competitions the city wants to get the facility open first.
