A native of Hackleburg, Alabama, he was the son of the late Anderson and Oma Terrell Coons. He was also preceded in death by his wife Virginia Barnes Coons.

Arnold was a long-time member of Darlington Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and a Alabama Crimson tide fan.

He was also a Veteran of the United States Air Force.

Surviving is his daughter Karen Coons Prince and her husband, Scott of Roanoke Rapids; his son, Arnold “Butch” Coons, Jr and his wife, Pat of Roanoke Rapids; granddaughter, Samantha Meeks of Roanoke Rapids; grandson Grady Lee “Gray” Neal, III of Roanoke Rapids; two sisters, Peggy C. Haskins and her husband, Gene and Inez C. Wheeler both of Roanoke Rapids; several Nieces and nephews  and great nieces and nephews including Lauren Doughtie and Alyson Barbrey.

Funeral Services will be held Monday February 8, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3-4:30 at the Funeral Home. Interment will be private in the Quankie Baptist Church Cemetery.
