Man sought on heroin, crack counts after fleeing residence

An afternoon shots fired call led to heroin and cocaine charges warrants taken out for a Scotland Neck man who remains at large after he fled.

Agent D.R. Radford of the City County Drug Task Force said in a statement Corporal S.N. Casey of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office responded to the call just after 1 p.m. om Henderson Farm Road.

Casey located Kevin Carswell, 28, standing on the front porch of the residence with a handgun. Carswell went inside the residence and fled out the back door as Casey exited his vehicle.

Casey and Scotland Neck Police Officer A. Holland conducted a protective sweep of the residence and located what appeared to be a controlled substance inside the residence in plain view.

Casey contacted Radford, who applied for and was granted a search warrant.

Task force Lieutenant H.G. Phillips and his dog Josh searched the residence.

During the search 50 dosage units of heroin and 2.5 grams of crack were seized along with a digital scale, a box of sandwich bags, a firearm and currency.

Casey obtained warrants for Carswell for possession with intent to sell or deliver heroin, possession of heroin, possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, maintaining a dwelling place for controlled substances, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The street value of the heroin is estimated at approximately $500.
