Weldon police are looking for a man who robbed the New Dixie Mart at West Second Street threatening the use of a butcher knife Monday night.

According to the initial police report, the man, wearing a gray ski mask, came into the store shortly before 9 p.m. and demanded the clerk open the cash register.

The clerk complied and the man, described as standing between 6-feet to 6-feet, 4-inches tall, left with an undisclosed amount of money.

The clerk told police the man wore multi-colored basketball shorts, although Lieutenant Chris Davis said it could not be determined if what he was wearing were basketball shorts or some other garment. He also wore a red, long-sleeve shirt, white shoes and black gloves.

Davis said police are also looking for a vehicle that may have been used in the robbery, a light-colored compact car similar to the one in the photo above.

He said it could not immediately be determined whether this robbery was related to one earlier this month at Family Dollar.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department at 252-536-3136 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
