Roanoke Rapids police Monday arrested a Uniondale, New York, man wanted in a Friday Emporia hospital bomb threat.

Joseph John Urbancik, 57, was arrested at Halifax Regional Medical Center around 3 p.m. where he was receiving medical treatment, Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty said.

Roanoke Rapids, through investigation, received information Urbancik was possibly at HRMC. Roanoke Rapids officers Jeffrey Mason and Adam Salmon arrested the man without problems.

Urbancik was jailed on $20,000 bond and is currently awaiting extradition back to Virginia, Emporia Police Chief Rick Pinksaw said this morning.

“This was a classic example of law enforcement working together,” Pinksaw said. “The teamwork approach from Southern Virginia as well as Halifax Regional helped bring the case to a successful conclusion.”

Pinksaw said Urbancik was familiar with Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center. “He was provided services there. He was not happy with the services.”

Virginia State Police bomb dogs were called to the hospital and no device was found. “They were really quick and professional.”
