Roanoke Valley law enforcement reported the following:

Halifax County Sheriff’s Office

Two people were arrested and charged Wednesday on counts related to a March call of a natural death and the break-in and theft of two vehicles belonging to the deceased.

Captain Scott Hall said the original call was on March 22 in the Grapevine Road area.

The following day family members reported a breaking and entering and the theft of two vehicles.

An investigation by Lieutenant A. Cash and Detective T. Byers linked the crime to Justin Roger Nowell, 40, and Jennifer Dawn Madison, 38, both of Roanoke Rapids.

Byers obtained warrants for the pair and Cash located and arrested them Wednesday.

They both face charges of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and two counts of larceny of a motor vehicle.

Nowell remains in the Halifax County Detention Center after being jailed without the opportunity for bond and Madison also remains in custody after receiving a $75,000 secured bond.

They each have May 23 district court dates.

Roanoke Rapids Police Department

On Sunday around 8 p.m. Lieutenant M. Hunsucker responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision in the area of West Fifth and Monroe streets, according to Chief Shane Guyant.

One of the vehicles was identified as a Chevrolet Aveo driven by Jeremy Narron, 35, of Gaston, who Hunsucker deduced to be impaired from a substance other than alcohol.

Narron consented to Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and at the completion of the testing, Hunsucker determined the man was impaired on a substance other than alcohol. Hunsucker conducted a DWI blood draw for impaired substances.

Narron was taken before a magistrate and charged with DWI and an unsafe movement violation.

He was released without bond to an unimpaired responsible party and given a May 17 district court date.

Guyant noted the marks on Narron’s face were not caused by the crash.
