A man with possible ties to the local heroin trade was arrested by City County Drug Task Force agents assisting federal agents on the service of an arrest warrant.

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said today whether Ricky Weldon “Sosa” Love Jackson is a major supplier locally is something that remains under investigation.

It also also unclear how long Jackson, 37, has been in Weldon, Tripp said.

Jackson was arrested around 11:30 today at an Elm Street residence in what is traditionally known as South Weldon.

His arrest was based on a warrant issued Thursday in Virginia's Eastern District United States Court in Norfolk for conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute heroin.

Copies of the federal warrant were not immediately accessible in the federal court filing system.

During the arrest, City County Task Force agents seized two items of drug paraphernalia that included a digital scale with white powder residue and a box of plastic bags.

Local agents cited him with possession of drug paraphernalia and he was assigned an April 22 court date.

Greenville and Raleigh agents of the FBI took Jackson into custody without issues and were transporting him to federal authorities to Virginia.
