A Roanoke Rapids man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly assaulting a Walgreen's employee.

Chief Chuck Hasty said Tyrone Perry, 35, faces charges of assault on a female, false imprisonment and communicating threats. He was jailed on $2,000 bond and has a January 23 court date.

Hasty said around 2 p.m., Officer Jeffrey Mason and Master Officer Gorton Williams responded to an assault call at Walgreen's. They were flagged down by an employee and were told that Perry, who has a past criminal record that includes assault, went to another local business in the area, where he was located.

The officers learned through investigation that Perry allegedly assaulted the employee without provocation, hitting her in the face and head with his fists.

The employee sustained injuries to her head and was treated and released from Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Hasty said the charge of false imprisonment reflects that Perry allegedly held the employee against her will, although she was able to break free.

It was not clear what prompted Perry to allegedly assault the employee.
