Halifax County has 112 registered sex offenders.

Sheriff Wes Tripp said the sheriff’s office is increasing the monitoring of registered offenders by having deputies assigned to specific offenders, who have various stipulations to their registry.

“The Sheriff’s Office will be able to more than double the standard visits and provide an abundance of documentation needed to prosecute violators,” Tripp said in a statement. “Deputies will conduct day and night visits to confirm that residency requirements are being met and update information such as changes in appearance, identification cards, vehicle use information, employment verification, and to provide information to offenders.”

Tripp said each deputy will be assigned two sex offenders. “That is extra on what we already do. It's a way to be more proactive.'

In August the sheriff’s office hosted a concentrated enforcement effort to detect sex offender violations countywide with the assistance of the SBI and United States Marshal'sService.

Three people were charged for failing to notify a change of address. One charge relating to being on a social media site was also filed. These operations will still continue, along with increased monitoring.

The North Carolina registry can be found on-line by following this link.

Information on the sex registration program can be found on the web site.

There is a public search available, links to other sites, and you can sign up for phone and e-mail alerts regarding offenders.
