The last person wanted in the September 24 murder of Wilton Cotton was returned to Halifax County today.

Quandre “Butt-Butt” Alston, 20, had no comment this evening as he was escorted from the Roanoke Rapids Police Department by detectives Jeff Davis and Corey Dixon. From Roanoke Rapids he was taken to Halifax where he will be jailed without the opportunity for bond in Cotton's murder, as well as the shooting of Richard Squire Jr. on a rainy September afternoon at Gordon Drive at the Oak Street intersection.

Alston, of Weldon, is scheduled to appear before a judge Friday and will have a first court appearance Wednesday.

He faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, two counts of felony conspiracy, discharging a weapon in the city limits and going armed to the terror of the people.

Alston is the seventh person charged in the case. He is one of two people in the case to be charged with going armed to the terror of the people and discharging a weapon in the city limits.

When asked which person he Alston allegedly shot, Davis declined comment.

Warrants filed in the case, however, say Alston and 18-year-old Rodney Joyner allegedly fired shots that killed Cotton and seriously wounded Squire over an ounce of marijuana and $595.33 in cash.

Davis said Squire is recovering from his wounds and is in rehab. It is unclear, however, if he will be able to walk again.

Davis said Alston reportedly fled to Baltimore soon after the murder and shooting. He had a probation violation in Maryland and was given time served, Davis said.

Investigation leading to Alston's apprehension and arrest in Maryland was the result of an investigation by him and fellow Roanoke Rapids Detective Bobby Martin, along with federal and state agencies, Davis said.
