A Roanoke Rapids man awaiting a June court hearing in a 2012 aggravated death by motor vehicle case is now in jail on $200,000 bond after his arrest Tuesday on heroin charges.

Antwain Eugene Whitmore, 29, of Sugarberry Road, Roanoke Rapids, faces charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, felony possession of heroin and driving while license revoked.

Roanoke Rapids Police Department narcotics Detective Daniel Hundley said Whitmore was stopped on Old Farm Road just past the Julian R. Allsbrook Highway intersection.

Hundley said he knew Whitmore did not have a drivers license so he initiated a stop near the Baymont Inn.

A search of the vehicle, with assistance from Officer Josh Langley, incident to Whitmore's arrest, resulted in the seizure of two bindles of heroin.

Whitmore was out on bond on charges associated with a September 23, 2012, fatal crash. Court records show he is scheduled to appear in court June 2 on charges of aggravated death by motor vehicle, felony second-degree murder, DWI and driving while licensed revoked.

He is scheduled to appear in court for the heroin charges on May 21.
