Halifax Academy varsity baseball beats Cary Christian 9-2 at home Wednesday night.

Starting pitcher Luke Blackman pitched 5 innings walking 1, striking out 9, allowed 2 hits and 2 runs.

Ryan Mizelle closed the game out pitching the last 2 innings walking none, striking out 3, allowed 2 hits and no runs.

Cary Christian had runners in scoring position in the 2nd and 6th innings, but great pitching and fielding by the Vikings kept them from scoring. Cary had bases loaded in top of 2nd inning with 1 out. Blackman struck out the next batter for out #2. Then the next batter hits a base hit to right field, but Brandon Moody fielded the ball and hits his cutoff man, Matthew Wray who throws the ball to catcher Ryan Hockaday and gets the runner out at home for the 3rd out.

Again in the 6th inning Cary had bases loaded with 1 out. This time Mizelle strikes out the batter for out #2 and next batter hits grounder to Andrew Bryant at 3rd who throws out runner at 1st base.

Mizelle struck out the last two batters looking to end the game in the 7th.

Vikings also hit the ball well tonight. Andrew Bryant had the big hit of the night with a 2 run home run over right center field fence. Mizelle and Wray led the team with 3 hits each, Wray had 3 doubles with 2 RBI's and Mizelle had 2 singles and a double with 1 RBI. Bryant had home run and single with 3 RBI's. Luke Blackman, Collin Smith and Landen Poole each had a single with 1 RBI each and Bradley Myrick also had a single.

The Vikings travel to Cary Christian next Tuesday April 28th and play at home Wednesday April 30th at 6:30 for senior night against Parrott Academy.
