One person is being held for questioning in a morning shooting in the 100 block of Madison Street.

Roanoke Rapids police could not immediately determine whether the shooting, in which one person was shot in between residences at 105 and 110 Madison Street, was related to a series of disturbance calls in the neighborhood Sunday, and again this morning.

The shooting occurred after 11:30 this morning when residents in the neighborhood said they heard three or four shots fired.

The person shot, who police declined to name, was taken to Halifax Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Captain Andy Jackson said there were five calls for service Sunday regarding a fight, but when police arrived those apparently involved dispersed.

This morning there were several more calls before police received the shooting call. It is unclear what the nature of the disturbance calls were, and also unclear the motivation behind the shooting.

Captain O.L. Morgan confirmed a man had been detained and as of this report was being interviewed but had not been arrested.

He said investigators collected four casings but not could not immediately confirm whether they were from this morning's shooting.

A weapon was recovered in a nearby neighborhood.
