RR man faces federal weapon counts

A Roanoke Rapids man currently serving a state prison sentence for possession of a weapon as a felon was indicted on three counts of federal weapon charges.

Jermaine Lamont Hale, 30, is currently incarcerated at the Hyde County Correctional Institution after his March 6 conviction in Halifax County Superior Court, state Department of Public Safety records show.
He was indicted federally on March 15 and a warrant for his arrest was filed the same day, federal court records show.
Count 1 of his federal indictment charges he was previously convicted of a crime punishable by a prison term of one year or more while Count 2 charges on November 10, 2016, he knowingly and intentionally possessed with the intent to distribute a quantity of cocaine.
Count 3 charges he possessed a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The drug charges mentioned in the federal indictment refer to his arrest on Lincoln Street where agents of the City County Drug Task Force seized 16 grams of crack cocaine, 17.6 grams of powdered cocaine, 29.2 grams of marijuana, nine Alprazolam pills, plastic bags, a handgun and currency.
