A well-known bargain outlet center will bring to completion the development of the old Walmart on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

Ollie’s Bargain Outlet submitted site plans to the Roanoke Rapids Planning and Development Department Wednesday to occupy the middle portion of the building between Goody’s and Tractor Supply.
Planning and Development Director Kelly Lasky said today no timetable has been given. She said the plans call for only interior construction and upfit to meet the company’s needs.
Lasky said the submission of the plans fill out the tenant space of the building.
The site plans call for a 20,000-square-foot sales area and 4,000-square-feet of warehouse space. The plans also call for a break room and office space in the approximately 40,000-square-feet building.
According to the company’s website, Ollie’s currently has 234 stores and has become one of the country’s largest retailers of closeouts, excess inventory, and salvage merchandise. There is a Rocky Mount store on Wesleyan Boulevard.
The store features items from housewares to sporting goods to flooring and to food.
