Law enforcement and other first responders are searching for a 30-year-old man who was reported missing earlier in the month.

The report Gary Joe Youngblood was missing was received on August 5, Captain Bobby Martin of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said this afternoon as a search party was formed to look for him in the Sunset Crest Lane area around the old airport.
The problem, Martin told those gathered for a briefing at the Davie Volunteer Fire Department, was no pertinent information on the circumstances behind his disappearance was received until recently.
He declined to discuss those circumstances with press.
Initial searches have been unsuccessful and a search done of buildings at the old airbase last week left authorities with no signs of the man.
The plan this afternoon was to search a wide swath of woods in the area of Sunset Crest Lane with responders going on foot and by ATV. The search teams planned to search about 20 acres of wooded area and a nearby pond.
Martin said the search, a joint operation between the police department and sheriff’s office is being led by Lieutenant Charles Vaught, an investigator with the police department.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
