Roanoke Rapids police are investigating the shooting of a wheelchair-bound man which occurred in the 900 block of Henry Street shortly before 9 this evening.

Captain Bobby Martin said the victim was shot multiple times with a handgun. He declined to immediately give a suspect description.
Crime scene tape stretched from the front of a mill house to a brick apartment building as well as the back of the two dwellings. The crime scene was contained to what appeared to be a vacant lot between the house and apartment.
Corporal J. Bozard and his dog Fino of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office were also dispatched to the scene and ran a track.
A man who had previously been interviewed by an officer told rrspin.com he saw or heard nothing.
As investigators and officers processed the crime scene, a patrol car blocked off the Ninth Street entrance to Henry Street.
The Roanoke Rapids Public Works Department brought in a mobile lighting system to aid investigators in processing the scene.
Martin said the shooting victim was taken to an undisclosed medical facility for treatment.
He said it was unclear what disability caused the victim to have to use a wheelchair.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
