RRPD blotter: August 15-17, 2016

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Captain Bobby Martin:

Monday August 15, 2016
At approximately 5:53 p.m., on August 10, Officer Patrick Smith responded to a call of property stolen from Premier Homes.
Smith discovered a lawn mower and a trolling motor were stolen and pawned.
Christopher Ryan Turner 30, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with obtaining property by false pretense and possession of stolen goods.
On August 15, Chief C.T. Hasty and Deputy Chief Andy Jackson stopped a vehicle in which Turner was a passenger. He received a $2,000 bond and September 21 court date.
At approximately 11:43 a.m. on August 9, Officer Joey Spragins responded to a call a 12-year-old was assaulted and robbed of his food at the downtown McDonald’s.
The victim was approached while taking the food home by two juvenile males and a teenager.
Spragins secured juvenile petitions for larceny from a person on the juveniles and charged Zatez Perry. 17, of Roanoke Rapids with the same count.
Perry surrendered at the police department on August 15. He received a $1,000 bond and October 19 court date.
Tuesday August 16, 2016
At approximately 5:20 p.m., Mason responded to a trespassing call at Quality Inn.
He encountered Brenda Haymond, 58, of Roanoke Rapids, who had been asked to leave the property and not come back.
She refused to listen and when the officer attempted to place her under arrest did not comply.
She was eventually charged with trespassing and resist, delay and obstruct. She received a $1,000 bond and September 22 court date.
At approximately 11:46 p.m., Officer J.L. Hardy was monitoring traffic in the area of Tenth and Jackson streets when he observed an SUV pass by him and noticed the passenger drinking what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage. Hardy initiated a traffic stop and advised the passenger to retrieve the alcoholic beverage.
Hardy discovered marijuana on the driver and Master Officer Roy Ball, who was assisting, noticed a gun in the vehicle.
Dale Ray Hux, 34, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with possession of a concealed weapon and open container in the passenger area.
He was placed under a $2,000 bond and received a September 21 court date.
Nate Walker 39, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with simple possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of drug paraphernalia
He received a $10,000 bond and the same court date as Hux.
Wednesday, August 17, 2016
Hardy was patrolling in the area of Church and Carter streets when he observed a vehicle in the area with occupants in an area known for drug activity.
Hardy continued to observe this vehicle as it made its way through the area. The driver failed to stop for a stop sign and proceeded to Bobby’s Supermarket.
The driver left when he spotted the officer, who could see the passenger moving around in the front seat, appearing to hide something.
Hardy stopped the vehicle in the area of Roanoke Avenue and Emery Street.
The passenger ran from the vehicle, ignoring Hardy’s commands to stop.
The person, later identified as Jack Eldridge Bryant, subject ran down into the creek and attempted to hide from Hardy but was unsuccessful,
Hardy went into the creek to apprehend him.
Bryant, 30, would not comply with the officer’s commands.
Hardy eventually charged him with resist, delay and obstruct, injury to property and an order for arrest for probation violation. He was jailed on $13,500 bond and has a September 9 court date.
Sergeant Mark Peck, Officer Scott Blythe and Ball assisted.
