For the second time in two days, a Halifax County Sheriff’s Office sergeant made a traffic stop which led to the seizure of heroin in the Scotland Neck area.

“Scotland Neck is still a location that receives and distributes heroin,” Chief Deputy Scott Hall said.

In a statement, Hall said on Friday around 10 p.m., Sergeant Steven Casey stopped a Toyota driven by a man identified as Marvin Batts Jr. on Highway 561 near Highway 258 for a violation.
Hall said Casey could reportedly smell marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Casey seized six bags of marijuana and 10 bindles of heroin.
He charged Batts, 43, of Scotland Neck, with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of heroin, felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving left of center.
Batts was placed in the Halifax County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond and has an August 31 court date pending.
Corporal John Bozard and Trooper T.D. Forsht of the state Highway Patrol assisted with the stop and arrest Friday.
On Wednesday Casey stopped a vehicle in which Wesley Blanding was a passenger. Blanding already faces heroin trafficking charges in Edgecombe and Nash counties.
Casey discovered Blanding was in possession of 39 bindles of heroin.
