A man who escaped police custody nearly two weeks ago was taken into custody today on Highway 48.

Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty said Joseph Anthony Boone Jr. was taken into custody shortly before 11 a.m. in the 3000 block of Highway 48 by City County Drug Task Force agents and members of the police department’s criminal investigation division.
Hasty confirmed Boone was not wearing the handcuffs he had on when he broke free from officers on July 28.
Investigators received word of his location and went there this morning. He attempted to flee but was taken into custody after a foot chase.
Boone, 46, was served an outstanding order for arrest and warrants for breaking and entering a motor vehicle, two counts possession of stolen goods, two counts larceny and resist/delaying/obstructing an officer.
He received a $52,000 bond and September 21 court date.
The events leading to the search for Boone and his eventual capture unfolded around 10:45 a.m. on July 28.
Officer Jamie Hardy responded to a call of a larceny from a vehicle in the Lowe’s Home Improvement parking lot.
The victim reported items were taken from the back of their vehicle while they were inside the store.
Surveillance video showed a burgundy Ford Excursion pulled next to the victim’s vehicle and a person got out and took items. The vehicle left the parking lot and Sergeant Daniel Jenkins spotted it at Walgreen’s.
Boone and Travis Sentell Davis, 37, both of Roanoke Rapids, were in the vehicle. Boone was found to be in possession of narcotics and had an outstanding order for arrest and outstanding warrant for larceny and possession of stolen goods from a June 23 matter.
Boone also has a court appearance on August 24 to answer to several larceny charges and a charge of larceny of a firearm, according to state court records.
Boone broke free while officers were talking with him and Daniels and ran toward the wood line behind DrugCo.
Daniels was arrested and charged with larceny and received a $1,000 bond and September 9 court date.
Captain A.M. Harris of the task force and agents Danny Radford, Justin Matthews, David McKeel, Chris Parker, Cory Dixon and Daniel Hundley assisted this morning along with Captain Bobby Martin, Lieutenant Charles Vaught, and investigators Chris Babb and Gorton Williams of the police department.
