The Halifax-Northampton-Warren County Breastfeeding Taskforce will hold an All Aboard the Health Train event Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Halifax Community College FIT Trail.

There will be interactive games, train rides for all ages, face painting, health screenings, healthy snacks and treats, door prizes and more.
There will be a big latch at 10 a.m. where breastfeeding women may come together to breastfeed and offer peer support.
The event is in support of World Breastfeeding Week which ends Sunday.
The event is celebrated every year in August in more than 176 countries.
The theme of the event is Breastfeeding: a Key to Sustainable Development, which aligns with the 17 goals the United Nations has set in place for 2016 to be achieved over the next 15 years. The purpose of World Breastfeeding Week is to encourage breastfeeding and improve the overall health of babies. World Breastfeeding Week is coordinated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action which acts to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding around the world.
The taskforce said in a statement, breastfeeding is beneficial not only for babies, but for mothers. “It creates the joyful closeness of bonding with your baby, saves money, and provides countless nutrients for your baby. In a global sense, breastfeeding can contribute to ending hunger, alleviating poverty, improved quality of life, good health and well-being, and quality education.”
A breastfeeding support group is now being offered at the Halifax Regional Medical Center every second and fourth Wednesdays from 11 a,m. until noon in the Birthing Center Classroom on the second floor. For more information, please call 252- 535-8912.
For additional breastfeeding support contact the WIC department at 252-535-4845 to speak with the Breastfeeding Coordinator and Breastfeeding Peer Counselor.
