Children take in the aroma of the spices they planted. Children take in the aroma of the spices they planted.

U.S. Cellular employees from across the region this afternoon helped children at the Boys & Girls Club of Halifax County get a jump on Earth Day, which is Friday.

The children, with help from the employees, made planters out of soda bottles, planted a variety of vegetables and spices in them and hung them on the fence to soak up sun and water.

The program was part of the company's Month of Giving project.
