The Ferguson Street raid which resulted in the arrest of Matthew “Speedy” Garner, 40, commenced shortly after 9 a.m. with assistance from the Halifax County Sheriff's Office Hazardous Entry and Arrest Team and Chief Winnie Bowens of the Littleton Police Department.
Captain A.M. Harris of the City County Drug Task Force said in a statement the execution of the search warrant was based on several citizen complaints and a joint effort with Littleton police.
“He's been on our radar since I've been in narcotics,” Harris said this afternoon. “He's a dealer.”
Harris said although a warrant was issued for his mother's arrest after marijuana was found in her bedroom, he could not say with certainty whether Viola Garner, 60, was helping her son.
During the execution of the search warrant agents seized marijuana and several items of drug paraphernalia which included Dutch Master cigars, Cigarillos, several marijuana grinders and a razor blade which tested positive for the presence of cocaine base.
Harris arrested Garner for possessing marijuana up to one-half ounce, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
He also served Garner the outstanding warrant for possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, sell cocaine, deliver cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance.
The charges were based on the undercover operation Friday.
Garner was processed and received a $50,000 bond with a June 29 court date.
Mrs. Garner is wanted for possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce and maintaining a dwelling.
