Gabriel "Boog" Roberts of the Roanoke Rapids High School wrestled this past weekend at the 2A East Regionals and Gaqualified for the NCHSAA State Individual Wrestling Championship.
Gabriel wrestled Iyron Whitehurst of Edenton and won by fall 0:42 in the first round.
In the Second Round he lost to D'Angelo Johnson of Nash Central by fall in 0:37.
In the Second Round Consolation Bracket, Gabriel won by Fall over Devon Grainger of Heide Trask 0:58.
Third Round Gabriel pinned Camden Creech of North Johnson 3:26.
In the Consolation Semi Finals, Roberts defeated Landon Spencer of Manteo by fall 3:37
In the Consolation Finals Gabe lost to Dominec Oneto of West Craven by fall 3:54.
Gabriel wrestled well enough to qualify for the state championship this Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the Greensboro Coliseum.
In the First Round, He will wrestle the number one seed from the West Region Geviaunta Walker of Lincolnton.
Coach White stated, "Roberts wrestled good in some matches and needed to improve in some areas. Gabriel is a great kid to coach. He works hard. He just needs to slow down during the matches and focus more on techniques. He should represent Roanoke Rapids well this week."
This is his second year qualifying for the State Championship and knows what to expect.
