Halifax County Schools announced the 26 people who make up this year’s Athletic Hall of Fame inductees. 

This recognition honors individuals and coaches whose performance was exceptional during their time at Halifax County Schools and through athletic achievements or contributions which brought honor to themselves, HCS, and the community.

To be considered for the Hall of Fame, student-athlete nominees must have graduated from Halifax County Schools at least five years prior to induction and played varsity sports for at least two years. 

In addition, they must have achieved one of the following accomplishments: named all-conference; named all-tournament; received a top-three state medal for any individual sport; named most valuable player in an individual sport; received a prestigious award such as all-American or  All-East — or achieved other exceptional performances in a sport.

The following were inducted:

Athletes: Jerome McDaniel, Joseph Cooper, Larry McDaniel, Ricky Hux, Carol Ward Moody, Lossie Jones Hunter, Ricky Pierce, Wayne Brown, Edmond Dixon, Wanda Jeffers, Wanda Lyons-Boone, Linette Hewlin, Ricky Clark, James Hunter Jr., Stella Jeffers-Lynch, Darnell Pittman, Craig Kent Williamson, Kenny Hilton, Tim McDaniels, Brenda Richardson-Wiggins, Steve Wright Coaches: Thomas Smith, Bobby Sledge, Rosenna Evans, Johnny Corbett, George Bracey.

“Congratulations to the 2022 Hall of Fame class,” said Superintendent Eric Cunningham. “We are thankful for your outstanding contributions to Halifax County Schools athletics. It is my pleasure to acknowledge and recognize your dedication to promoting good sportsmanship and serving as a stellar representative of Halifax County Schools”.

Former system athletic director and Assistant Superintendent Charles Chambliss thanked Cunningham and system Public Information Officer Darian Pressley for bringing the ceremony to fruition. “Congratulations to all the selected players and coaches into the 2022 Halifax County School District Athletic Hall of Fame.”

This is the second class of Hall of Fame inductees and the 26 join the 12 inaugural members.
