The Weldon High School Chargers basketball teams headed down to play the Jaguars of Rocky Mount Prep Friday night with the goal of bringing home all three wins and they were able to do just that.

The junior varsity boys basketball team had to bring out some inner talent from the entire team to come from behind at one point by double digits to end up winning by a score of 61-57. The game was intense from the tip-off to the final buzzer. Early foul trouble had Weldon Coach Odom substutiting players every few minutes in order to keep the fast paced game going. The Chargers trailed the first three quarters but refused to give up and they were able to grab the lead and didn't let go.

The varsity girls contest opened up showing everyone in the gym that the every lafy Charger played a crucial part on Weldon's Girls team. Weldon Coach Grady formed a new starting lineup for the evening and the first five ladies did a phenomenal job of setting the team up for a 74-19 win.

In the anticipated game of the evening, everyone saw another statement about a Weldon team. Weldon Varsity boys Coach Handsome also created a new lineup to highlight the importance of every player wearing a Charger uniform. With the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars eager to keep at least one victory at home, the game began and ended with the running, shooting, shot blocking, ball stealing strategies that the fans were expecting. However, the Chargers were prepared mentally and physically for the hype of such a game which enabled them to cruise to a 93-59 win.

The Chargers will play at Roanoke Rapids High on Wednesday afternoon.

The scheduled game for Tuesday against the Trojans of Southeast Halifax has been changed to Saturday with a 3 pm tipoff.

The Chargers will have a home game on Friday, January 17th against the Panthers of KIPP.
