Laboratory Technician – Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District is seeking a laboratory technician to perform general laboratory analysis and duties normally associated with a laboratory environment.
Work is performed in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations, to ensure compliance needs.
This is technical work that requires the application of prescribed laboratory procedures in the operation and quality control of a wastewater treatment plant treating domestic and industrial wastewater.
This position performs routine and complex technical level examinations of samples to monitor the effectiveness of the processes of the treatment plant and ensure quality of operation standards are obtained and maintained. Work will be done under the general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor.
Requirements:
Any combination of education equivalent to an associate degree in chemistry, biology, or environmental science and a minimum of some experience in performing laboratory tests
General knowledge of modern laboratory techniques, materials, and equipment, including those used in standard chemical and biochemical analysis
General knowledge of the principles of organic and inorganic chemistry
Applicants must possess or have the ability to obtain a Grade I Biological wastewater operator certification and/or Grade I Wastewater Laboratory Analyst Certification.
Ability to effectively communicate with customers, supervisors, and co-workers tactfully and courteously
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Driver’s License valid in the State of NC

Full Salary Range: $21.85 - $34.43 Hourly
Expected Starting Salary Range: $21.85 - $25.00 Hourly
Placement within this range will depend upon the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
