Joseph Wayne Odom passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 with his family by his side. He was 74 years of age.
Wayne was born on November 22, 1946 as the oldest child of the late Gertha Elvin Odom and Rachel Jones Odom.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerry Odom, brother in law, Sammy Birdsong, and special friends, Clif Lewis, Dennis Kittrell, and Wayne Lewis.
Wayne was survived by his wife of 42 years, Sherry Moffatt Odom, his daughters, Sandy Odom, Erika Odom and her partner Curtis Harrelson, and Marcy Odom, brother, Dennis Odom and his wife Linda Lewis Odom, sister, Linda Odom Birdsong, and grandchildren, Kirklyn Parks, Camden Parks, Colton Harrelson, Caydance Harrelson, Hayes Odom, and Raelynn Harrelson. Wayne had many special cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ray Rook was a dear friend to Wayne.
Wayne retired from Carolina Telephone/Sprint in Roanoke Rapids after 32 years of service where he made many special friends. He was known as “the telephone man” by many. He served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids. Wayne loved family gatherings, his lifelong family vacations at White Lake, and spending time at Lake Gaston. He carried many titles in his life — Son, Brother, Husband, Daddy, and Pop.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church from 6-8. Family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
