James Linwood “Shug” Pearcey, 77, died Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at his son’s home in Gaston.

James was the son of the late James William Pearcey and Lucille Floyd Pearcey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step father Melvin “Willie” Williams, brothers, Dennis Williams and Steve Williams, sister Barbara Hargrave. 

Shug was a retired electrician and a longtime member of Castalia United Methodist Church. 

He loved his dogs, fishing, playing softball, and collecting baseball cards, and was a loyal Yankees baseball fan.

James is survived by his loving wife Alie C. Pearcey, of the Hilliardston Community in Nash County, where she and James made their home, his sons, John “Pete” Pearcey and his wife Sandra of Gaston, James “Bubba” Pearcey and his wife Aleisha, and Mitch Pearcey, his step daughters, Christy Privette and Natasha Barfield, both of Raleigh, Kay Johnston, Donna Hester, Debbie Wheeler,  step sons, John Privette of Louisville, Kentucky, and David Sadler, grandchildren. Stephanie, Stacie, Amie, Jamie, and Alexis Pearcey, five great grandchildren, Farren, Carson, Austin, Aden, and Noah, nine step grandchildren, 15 step great grandchildren, an aunt Lee Miller of Virginia.  

The family would like to thank Community Hospice and his caregiver Peggy Fajna and a special thanks to Sandra and Pete Pearcey for their kind and loving care.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Wrenn Clarke and Hagan Funeral Home, other times at the home of Pete and Sandra Pearcey, 217 Allen Lane, Gaston, NC.

A Memorial Service will be held after the visitation in the Chapel of Wrenn Clarke and Hagan at 2:00 PM with Rev. David Joyner officiating.
