Katherine Byrum Hathaway of Roanoke Rapids passed away Wednesday, November 09, 2022 at Warren Hills Nursing Center at the age of 87.

She was born September 28, 1935 in Windsor, Bertie County, NC.  She was the last surviving child out of the 12 children born to Charlie Moss and Nellie Elizabeth Byrum.

 Katherine married Curtis Hathaway Sr. on October 6, 1951. They celebrated almost 61 years of marriage before he passed away. 

She was an 8 year breast cancer survivor.  She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on October 3, 1953. 

She enjoyed studying the Bible with others and talking about God’s promises of a new world and paradise where there would be no more pain or death as listed in Rev 21: 3&4.  She also enjoyed gardening, fishing, crocheting, sewing, reading and cooking for her family.

A friend gave a good description of Katherine. He said she was “a sweet gentle woman yet stern when needed.”

 She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Hathaway Sr., a grandchild, Nichole Hathaway, and son-in-law Don Morris.

She is survived by her children: Katherine Morris, Deborah and Ron Girdley of Littleton, NC, Curtis Hathaway Jr. of Huntington, WV and Tanya Mason of South Hill, VA; grandchildren: Thelmer Damron, Brittany Cockram, Samantha Wren, Curtis Hathaway III, Brooke Mason, Michael and Alex Hathaway; 10 great-grandchildren and another on the way, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
