Jonathan Dewayne Carter, 27, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Monday, August 1, 2022.

Jonathan was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Jane Brown Carter and his special great uncle, Joseph Brown.

Jonathan is survived by his parents, George and Ginny Lewis, his siblings, Heather Carter, Ann Marie Bolton (James),  Le'Trisha Lewis Dillinder (Danny),  Dr. Antoinette Lewis King (David), Paul Lewis (Debra), Meghan Lewis Metcalfe (Clay), Justin Lewis (Alice),and Dianna Smith.

He is also survived by his nephews: Brendan Dixon, Hunter Fajna, Cody Fajna, and Bryce Terry that Jonathan grew up with, along with a host of nieces and nephews that he cared for deeply. He is also survived by his biological father, Harry (Buddy) Carter, and his special Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. There are also his childhood friends, who loved him like a brother: Kristen Bolt, Hayleigh Stallings and Austin Taylor.

Jonathan was a young man who was loved by his family, both at church and home. He spent his entire childhood growing in faith at East Tenth Street Christian Church (E10) where he participated in the Youth program and could be found sitting on the front pew most Sundays. Jonathan was very knowledgeable about the Bible and could recite scripture by memory.

He was known for his big heart and sweet soul. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and helped with a lot of projects that the Men's Fellowship Team would do.

Jonathan could be very serious but had such a fun side too. He was as "goofy" as he could be and loved a good joke!

It was nothing to see Jonathan coming home with a Lego set he had found in the neighbor's trash, only to see a "Lego worm with a motor" coming down the hall.

He loved to "work" on things and which led him to enroll in the Automotive Program at Halifax Community College.

Jonathan also "played" ( maybe more grass picking) every sport from flag football, soccer, t-ball, and basketball, none of which he pursued later in life.

Our Jonathan will be missed by all who knew and loved him ... Rest in Peace sweet boy.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 7, 2022 at East 10th Street Christian Church with Jason Yeatts, Minister officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 1:30 P.M. at the church prior to the service.
