Dave grew up an often mischievous, yet big-hearted boy in Thelma, NC with his late parents, Davison Alexander Fishel, Sr. and Thelma Piner Fishel, and his little sister, Cathy. He is also preceded in death by his youngest daughter Leslie Alexandra Fishel.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Tony Payne, both missionaries in Cape Town, South Africa; daughter and son-in-law, Amber and Justin Sandeford, and their four children, Jace, Ava, Kage, and Alex; mother of his two daughters, Pat Coons; and three nieces, Amy, Clare (Clare-bear), and Emily.

Dave was known as a talented musician, carpenter, and pool shark. He always said he could play any instrument by ear, except brass. He was part of multiple local bands in the late 70’s and 80’s, but is best remembered sitting solo at a piano singing “Desperado.” In the latter part of his life, he was blessed with friends from Central Baptist Church who were vital in cultivating his faith in Christ as he battled cancer.

A private graveside service will be held at Sunset Hills in Littleton, NC on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 2:00pm.

Acoustic selections from a dear friend, James Bailey, and from Dave’s oldest grandson, Jace Sandeford, will be played.

Pastor Steven Tondee will be officiating the service. It will be available as a livestream on Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service’s Facebook page.
