Cyril Clyde Waters died Saturday, January 11, 2020, peacefully at his home on Lake Gaston at the age of 94.

He was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Nancy Shearin Waters. 

The oldest of three sons of Clyde Murphy Waters and Olive Boyd Waters of Roanoke Rapids, he was also predeceased by his brothers Earl Wayne Waters of Orlando, FL and Ronald Mason Waters of Danville, VA. 

Cyril was a graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School and a life-long member of New Hope Methodist Church where, in his later years, he enjoyed the Methodist Men’s Breakfast Group.  In his professional career as a land surveyor, he was engaged in the Halifax County original tax-mapping project and retained by Stone & Webster Engineers to supervise the surveying and mapping of the Lake Gaston Reservoir line.  

Later, in private practice, he was involved with land development on Lake Gaston and Becker Farms in Roanoke Rapids. As a diarist, he chronicled his life story in journals for almost 75 years. An avid reader, he devoured books on history and current events.  He was so proud of his large and loving extended family and was a well-respected member of the Roanoke Rapids community all his life.

Cyril is survived by four children: David R. Waters and his wife, Susan, of Oxford, NC; Linda W. Long of Chapel Hill, NC; Diane W. Davis and her husband, Kearny, of Chapel Hill, NC; Jonathan C. Waters and his wife, Lisa, of Lake Gaston, NC.  He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Elma Holyfield Waters of Orlando, FL and Jonnie Bell Shearin Clement of Mebane, NC.

Ten grandchildren survive him:  Michael D. Waters and his wife, Bridget, of Oxford, NC; Jennifer W. Story and her husband, Timothy, of Mebane, NC; Whitney W. Bulbrook and her husband, James of Chapel Hill, NC; Lauren L. Brookshire and her husband, Paul of Raleigh, NC; Leonard D. Long II, of Chapel Hill, NC; Eleanor E. Davis, F. Hannah Davis, Katherine B. Davis, all of Chapel Hill, NC; Taylor L.E. Waters and Jaxson C. Waters of Lake Gaston, NC.

Eight great-grandchildren survive him: Benjamin Boyd Waters of Oxford, NC; Carson Elizabeth Story and Hunter Harrison Story of Mebane, NC; Simone Alexandra Bulbrook, Heather Danielle Bulbrook, and Weston James Bulbrook of Chapel Hill, NC; Cole Livingston Brookshire and Jillian Cynthia Brookshire of Raleigh, NC.

The funeral service is to be held at 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, January 15, 2020 at New Hope Methodist Church with Reverend Sue Owens presiding.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Following the committal, the family will greet visitors in the church fellowship hall.
