Rosaleen “Rose” Ennis Lucas, 85, died May 20, 2019, in her Roanoke Rapids home, while surrounded by her family.

Rose was born April 4, 1934, in Halifax County, the daughter of James B. and Sallie Kay Bobbitt Ennis.

She liked cooking and canning. Rose joined some of her former high school friends, known as “The Girls” for a monthly lunch date.

Survivors include her sons, Michael A. “Mike” Lucas of Roanoke Rapids, Robert N. “Robbie” Lucas of Raleigh; grandchildren, Christy Lucas Hudson (Danny), Michael Cole Lucas, Jessi Kate Lucas; great-grandchild, London Gabriella; a special cousin, Gwen Allen; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Maurice N. Lucas; and a sister, Elizabeth Curry.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 pm Wednesday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service, and at other times at her home.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Randy Martin presiding.
