Maxine Lynch Mayton, 86, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024.
She was the daughter of the late Charlie Macon Lynch and Mary Estelle Manning Lynch. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Leigh Mayton, Sr., grandson, Richard Andrew Leigh Mayton, III, her sisters, Mary Lillian Lynch Draper, Lois Lynch and her brothers, Bernard Lynch, Pete Lynch, Beckwith Lynch and Paul Lynch.
Maxine was a 1955 graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School. In 1958 she went to work for Atlantic Credit Company. After 41 years and several buy outs, Maxine retired from Bank of America in 1998 as Branch Manager. With a lifetime love of music and church, Maxine was a longtime member of Rosemary Baptist Church where she played the piano and organ for church services as well as funerals and weddings. She also played for Askew Funeral Services and for Roanoke Baptist and Littleton Baptist Churches. She was a longtime active member of the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce. She was a Den Mother and the PTA President.
She took many vacation trips to Florida, Walt Disney World, Raleigh and New York to see ballets and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Canada, Hawaii, Mexico and the North Carolina Mountains.
She was an avid Duke Basketball fan and Grayson Allen was one her favorite players.
Maxine enjoyed her retirement by spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Mayton Brantley of Roanoke Rapids; her son, Richard Andrew Leigh Mayton, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth of Roanoke Rapids; her grandchildren, Stephanie Nycole Brantley, William Nicholas Brantley, Adrienne Campbell and Eric Lee Mayton; great grandchildren, Kayla Alexis Casper, Richard Andrew Leigh Mayton, IV, Kaitlyn Nichole Mayton, Jaden Lane Mayton, Noah Blake Brown and Aleah Maxine Mayton.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at Rosemary Baptist Church with Dr. Layne Wallace officiating.
Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7:00-8:30 PM at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.
