Janet Walth Wilson departed this life on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at home surrounded by family.
She was the daughter of the late Earl M. Walth and Margaret “Peggy” Rasmussen.
Born in Eureka, SD on December 31, 1948, she was raised in Colorado Springs, CO.
After graduating from St. Mary’s High School, she attended the University of Colorado where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Stephen Walth.
Janet met and married the love of her life, Ken, June 22, 1974 while he was stationed in Colorado Springs with the United States Air Force.
They moved to McGuire AFB, NJ and then to Altus AFB, OK before settling in Roanoke Rapids, NC following his retirement.
She was a nurse at the hospitals in Emporia, VA and Scotland Neck, NC before becoming a nursing instructor at Halifax Community College, retiring in 2015.
After she retired, she volunteered at Halifax Memorial Hospital and enjoyed talking with former students.
Caring for those in need was her passion, whether patients in the hospital, a family member, or friend.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of over 49 years, C. K. “Ken” Wilson of the home, son David Wilson (Rebecca) of Murfreesboro, NC, daughter Christene W. Hoyt (Philip) of Granville, NY; mother-in-law, Martha G. Wilson of Roanoke Rapids, NC; granddaughters, Rileigh Wilson, Kayla Wilson, Ashley Hoyt, and Taylor Hoyt; step granddaughters Rayne Davis, Jaide Davis, and Jacey Carlisle; niece, Heather N. Royster (Josh), nephews Gregory Walth, Mark Walth, and Benjamin Walth; grandniece, Addie Royster and grandnephew, Jack Royster. She is also survived by her brother, Michael Walth (Margaret) of Louisville, CO., sister, Marymn “Molly” W . Bernard (Stephen) of Denver, CO., and sister-in-law, Brenda Walth of Colorado Springs, CO. In addition, she is survived by sister-in-law, Jane Lawler (Tom) of Raleigh, NC, and brother-in-law, John Wilson (Launa) of Cle Elum, WA.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Angel, Doris, Kimiesha, Wanda, and the staff at Scotland House for their care of Janet.
Also, a special thank you to Liberty Hospice staff members, Lavelle, Shelley, Cathy, and Ebony for their care of Janet and the family.
The family extends a heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Amanda McGee, Neurologist, at Boice Willis Clinic in Rocky Mount, NC for her care and support.
Visitation will be held at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 6:30 – 8:00 PM.
A funeral service will be held on February 22, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services officiated by Rev. Randy Martin.
Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
