James Weathers Pearson, Sr., 81, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024.

He was a native of Halifax County and was the son of the late Grady and Willie Pearson.

James was a “Great Dad and Papa.” 

He retired from West Point Stevens and then worked for Pearson’s Nursery for 10 years. 

He loved Lake Gaston, dressing up as the Easter Bunny and Halloween for the kids. 

He and Sarah Baltz started the Sherwood Forest pig picking and he was a legend at the campground. He was an avid Duke fan; he simply loved people and would talk to anyone.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Morgan Pearson, his son, James “Jim” Weathers Pearson, Jr. and Jennifer Suggs of Roanoke Rapids; his granddaughter, Jessica Ann Carter and her husband, John of Roanoke Rapids; great granddaughter, Everly Carter; nephew, Jess Morgan and Sue Haynes; his mother-in-law, Virginia Hall of Roanoke Rapids and his sister-in-law, Sue Morgan of Henrico.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Joseph Battle officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.
