Ruth Carolyn Thompson, 85, of Conway, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 27, 2023,at ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

Carolyn was born to Jack and Ruth Storey on September 13th, 1938. 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her second husband, Aaron (Hawk) Thompson; first husband, Daniel C. Murphy; daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Scott; and siblings, J.E. Storey, Parker Storey, Becky Simon, Crethie Spence, Steve Storey, and Ronald Storey.Throughout her life, Carolyn enjoyed speaking with and caring for everyone she met. She found her calling in healthcare and spent many years providing compassionate care through her work with Jackson Rescue, the Rich Square Nursing Home, and Halifax Regional Hospital. 

Carolyn was a lifelong Tarheels fan and could be found rooting for Nascar racer, Kyle Busch, while sitting on her favorite recliner. 

She enjoyed everything about nature including flowers, fresh vegetables, sitting in the summer breeze, and watching the hummingbirds flutter along the windows. 

Her life was full of joy and love for her family and friends.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Marcia Perry of Eure, April Smith and husband John of Hudson, and Tonya Behrends and husband John of Conway; grandchildren, Lisa Moore (Jay), Gary Scott (Bridget), Rick Daughtrey Jr., Nicholas Scott, Jennifer Williams (James), Jack Clark, Dustin Harrell, Tayla Behrends, Harlee Behrends, and Zackery Behrends; great-grandchildren, Lance Greene (Victoria), Brandon Butler (Susie), Tiffany Gonzalez (Carlos), Megan Freeman (Kyle), Shaun Clark, Andrew Scott (Bree), Ty Scott, and Mya Scott; great-great-grandchildren, Judith Greene, Myles Freeman, Tucker Freeman, Gabe Scott, and Holden Scott.

Funeral services will be held at the family cemetery in Creeksville on Saturday, December 30, at 2:00pm, with Pastor Matt Miles officiating. 

The family will receive friends prior to the service at Askew Funeral Home in Jackson, NC on Saturday, December 30, from 11am-12pm.
