Mrs. Shirley Sokolinsky, age 77, of Littleton, NC, unexpectedly passed away on February 7, 2019.  She did not want to leave her family and friends because she loved us so much but God needed her more.

Shirley grew up in Binghamton, NY.  She attended Chenango Valley High School and later on earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

In 1961, Shirley met Bob, the love of her life.  They got engaged on Christmas Eve in 1963 when Bob returned home from Navy Bootcamp.

They were married on April 4, 1964.  Bob planned an amazing honeymoon for them … an adventure on the Mediterranean Sea (Turkey) which lasted four years and two children later when Bob’s first tour of duty was completed.  What an adventure she had been on ever since.

Shirley was a compassionate and loving wife, mother, nurse, grandmother, sister, aunt, soccer mom, and friend.  She was an angel of earth whose wings grew bigger everyday with all of the love and joy she shared with all that knew and met her.  She lit up the room with her big smile, beautiful laugh, amazing sense of humor, caring heart, and, of course, her bright and colorful hats and outfits.  She loved making people happy and bringing a smile to their face.

Shirley lived her life with compassion and a priority to care for and serve others.  It truly filled her heart and soul to help someone else. She loved her neighbors and community and thoroughly enjoyed her time with the Lake Gaston Ladies Club, Red Hat Society, local Food Bank, and Helping Hands and Hearts.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Robert Sokolinsky; Son, Mark Sokolinsky; Daughter, Denise Martin; Grandsons, Kenneth and Joseph Martin, Gavin and Aidan Sokolinsky; Brother, Leo Lake; Sisters, Kathleen Murray and Marion McComb; and numerous extended family and friends who all loved and adored her.

A memorial service will be held in Shirley’s honor to celebrate her amazing life on the following date:

Date:  Friday, March 1, 2019

Time:  11:00 am

Place:  St. John the Baptist Catholic Church

Address:  115 E 9th Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the “Shirley Sokolinsky Memorial Fund” at Roanoke Rapids Savings Bank.
