Robert “Bobby” Lee Edwards, Sr. age 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 10, 2022 at ECU North Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Bobby was born in Halifax County on May 8, 1940 to the late Louise Hasty Moore and Bernard Lee Edwards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles Emory Edwards, step mother, Nellie Wright Edwards and step father, Louis Griffin Moore.

Grandsons, Jake Van Dam and Hunt Van Dam of Raleigh. His sister, Lou Ann Warren (Roger); sister in law, Amelia Edwards of Roanoke Rapids and several nieces and nephews.

Bobby worked at JP Stevens from the time he was 18 years old until his retirement when the plant closed down. He was the supervisor of the Card Cutting Department and later head of Purchasing & Supply Department at the Rosemary Plant.

After his retirement, his shop became the gathering spot for all of his friends where they cooked many a meals and told many a tales.

He was a member of Spring United Methodist Church in Skippers, VA. Bobby was an avid hunter and fisherman.

If he wasn’t in a boat or in a tree stand, you could find him on a ballfield somewhere.

He loved playing softball and didn’t retire until his hips finally played out in the 1980's.

He was one of the original Little Bombers and went on to The World Championship in Chicago where the team came in 7th place in the world.

In his later years, his greatest love would be watching his two grandsons play baseball. Jake was his favorite pitcher and Hunt, his favorite catcher.

He was a diehard New York Yankees fan and one of the highlights of his life was being able to attend a few of their games.

Bobby loved animals and had many dogs throughout his lifetime, but surprisingly, his very last companion that he left behind would be his faithful cat, to whom he simply called “The Baby”.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gerardo Maradiaga, Dr. Isaac Miller, ECU North Hospital ICU nurses and 5th floor nurses for their loving and compassionate care these past two weeks.
