Horace Futrell Barnes, 85, died Friday, January 24, 2020, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.

Horace was born in Northampton County, February 17, 1934, son to the late Dolph Barnes and Maggie Futrell Barnes. He was a retired Veteran having served his country in the United States Navy. After retiring from the Navy, Horace came home where he was a heavy equipment operator for many years.  In addition to his parents, Horace was preceded in death by his sisters, Janice Harrell, Maxine Denton, Patricia Robbins; and his brothers, Theodore, Linwood and Rudolph Barnes. 

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Weaver Barnes of the home; brothers, Talmadge Barnes of Rich Square, Burland Barnes of Louisville, KY and Odell Barnes of Jackson and his sister, Gwendolyn Bazemore of Windsor. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.  

The family will have a private service at a later date.
